Wat Pariwat is a sacred Buddhist temple located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. The temple boasts spectacular architecture and is also considered a significant place for worship. But what makes it stand apart is that the temple complex consists of lots of sculptures depicting the pop culture icons.

There's an image of the football star David Robert Joseph Beckham at the base of the main Buddha statue, hence the nickname David Beckham Temple.

How to Reach

There's a BRT bus stop right outside the Wat Pariwat complex. So, it's not a hassle to get to the temple at any time of the year. The bus is well connected to the BTS stations at Chong Nonsi, Talat Phlu, and more.

The Temple Complex

Wat Pariwat is an architectural wonder that is a true delight to look at. The entrance door is massive and decorated with a variety of ornaments. The main building here boasts a modern style of architecture and is home to a large Buddha statue. It has a huge walled courtyard housing a set of shrines. Also, there are several nondescript temples that host funerals and other programs.

The blue-roofed ordination hall is located near the courtyard. It's home to the famous David Beckham image placed at the base of the Buddha statue. The image sits in the Garuda style, holding the Buddha statue upwards. It's wearing a Man U shirt with a sharp logo. It was installed here in the year 1998 when Beckham was still playing for his team, having huge popularity in South East Asia.

The temple complex has images of two former Thai prime ministers. The list also includes iconic figures like Barak Obama, Jackie Chan, Albert Einstein, Che Guevara, and others. Also, there are Indian Gods & Goddesses, mythical Chinese creatures, Captain America from the Marvel Comics, Dobby the House Elf from Harry Potter, Falkor the Luck Dragon from Neverending Story, and more.

The grounds are packed with many Buddha images as well. It's home to a golden Chedi housing more Buddha images. There is a Ganesh statue as well, sitting in the most conventional posture.

The shrines look exaggerated, owing to the materials used such as gold, pearl, crystal, and more.

The building housing the David Beckham image remains closed most time of the year. It opens for visitors on special occasions in the Buddha calendar.
