Ways To Avoid Being Duped By Your Supermarket

Don’t end up buying double than what’s on your list!

How many times have you gone to the supermarket hoping for a quick buy for the necessities but ended up spending hours and filling up a cart full of things you barely need? We all have been there, done that. We all have exceeded our budget no matter how many times we have rehearsed in our heads not to make the same mistakes again and again. Well, it’s not your fault exactly. Supermarkets all around the world have certain tricks up their sleeves that lure the customers into buying more than what they need and sometimes even things that are unnecessary. Simple psychological and marketing tricks let the supermarket get the best of you. Here are the things you should avoid the next time you go shopping to avoid being tricked by your supermarket. Again!

Do Not Pay Attention To The Music

The layout of supermarkets is designed to encourage customers to spend longer hours than they had intended to. The best way to do that, as the supermarkets have figured it out, is to play soothing and slow music. Slow music will automatically slow down your pace as you go around the aisles. The soothing tones of the music will relax your nerves and we all know what else relaxes nerves –shopping! The music sets you in the mood as you slowly walk around the aisle and you even start taking notice of more products and your brain suddenly finds them interesting because you are in a good mood. The solution? Don’t pay attention to the music!

Read Brand Right To Left

Another genius strategy of the supermarkets to trick you into buying higher priced products is placing higher branded products to the left side if the aisle, and the cheaper brands on the result. As human beings, your natural tendency is to read left to right and so, you will always notice the products on the left side first. As a result, you will reach for them first. So, start finding bands from the right to the left.

Skip The Shopping Cart

The shopping cart is a huge mistake if you are in to buy just a handful of items. As soon as you get a cart, you will tend to fill it up and hence buy things you don’t need. Skip the cart, skip the extra expenditure!
