A player like Glenn Maxwell who has struggled in IPL for the majority of his career has suddenly come good since coming to Royal Challengers Bangalore. There are no two ways about the fact that Glenn Maxwell is one of the most talented cricketers in the world and oozes quality. However, his overall record in the IPL is still far from impressive.
From 95 matches in the IPL, he has scored 1952 runs at an average of under 25 and a strike rate of 152 with just 11 half centuries.
This is why it came as a big surprise when RCB splurged over 15 crore for Maxwell to get him in the side for IPL 2021. However, the Australian hasn't disappointed.
From his first 13 matches of the season, he struck 447 runs at an average in excess of 40 and a strike rate of 146 with five half centuries. For a player as inconsistent as Maxwell over the years, he smashed three half centuries consecutively at one point against Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings respectively.
Maxwell was on his way to smashing another one had not been run out by Kane Williamson against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Royal Challengers Bangalore's second last match of the league stage of IPL 2021.
He has been handy with the ball as well. In a match against Mumbai Indians, he not only scored 56 runs but also picked up 2 wickets while conceding just 23 runs and received the player of the match award.
"It was a nice day. We pretty much did everything right tonight. Virat and KS got us through the powerplay and set up a really good foundation for us. I have worked on my reverse sweeps and switch hits a lot over the years and it has become a strength for me. I wanted to cash in hitting to the shorter side with the wind going that way as well."
"To be able to have a full pre-season with my state side Victoria, I put in a lot of work on my bowling and am starting to see the rewards now. Hopefully people can stay safe, get vaccinated and we can travel around the world again and be nice and free," Maxwell said.
One has to appreciate Virat Kohli and the RCB team management for providing Maxwell the right atmosphere to flourish.
