Ever gone to a place where you will not be able to see even a single car?

Who isn’t looking for some peace and serenity in this day and age of fast-paced life? So if you are currently planning a vacation and want to go somewhere extremely peaceful, then we have the perfect recommendation for you! There’s a place called Mackinac Island where no cars can be seen running! Yes, this is true. This island is located at the tip of the lower peninsula of Michigan and cars were banned here in the 1800s and ever since the only way to get around is a bike or a horse ride! Even to get to the island, one need to take a ferry as there’s no other mode of transportation. But once you land on the island, you will feel as if you have been transported back to the 1800s. Let’s list out below a few things you can do on this beautiful and curious island…

  1. Visit the Mackinac Island State Park – This is not just any park, the Mackinac Island State Park covers almost 80% of the island and has a plethora of things you can do and explore. This park also has several natural features which serve as tourist attractions. Some of them are the Arch Rock, a natural limestone structure, Skull Cave, a cave carved by the waters of Lake Huron, Sugar Loaf, another limestone monument, and much more.
  2. Explore Downtown – Exploring Mackinac Island is probably one of the most important things one should do. You will have to both take a cycle or a horse carriage and roam around. You can see some historic buildings here like the McGulpin House, the Biddle House, Dr. Beaumont Museum, and other buildings from the 1700 and 1800 era.
  3. See the Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum – If you are an avid art lover and love to explore every place’s art and culture, then this should be on your bucket list. Built in 1838, has local Mackinac-related art, Native American art and also many historical photos and art on display. The museum at times also hosts art activities which would be fun for your children!
