World's Fastest Station Wagon Record: 294kmph By Audi RS6

Recently, a specially tuned Audi RS6 Avant created a new speed record and became the world’s fastest station wagon

A few days ago, an Audi RS6 Avant, specially tuned by Hennessey Performance, became the fastest station wagon on the planet by registering a top speed of 183 miles per hour/294 kilometres per hour. Before the RS6 Avant, the record was held by a Jeep Trackhawk that touched a top speed of 291 kilometres per hour in 2019.

Why this article is important?

The fastest bullet train on earth by the name Shanghai Maglev Train did a top speed run of 431 kilometres per hour in 2004. Therefore, a four-wheeled car hitting a top speed of 294 kilometres per hour is newsworthy. The car tuned by Hennessey Performance is an example of how far automobile engineering has come.

Audi’s name is known, but who is Hennessey Performance?

Founded in 1991 by John Hennessey, Hennessey Performance is a company based out of Texas, United States. The company is famous for tuning cars made by various renowned car manufacturers. The company tunes cars and helps them achieve enhanced performance. In short, it is a company that modifies cars. The Audi RS6 Avant that created the record is owned by John Hennessey’s wife.

How did the Audi RS6 Avant achieve the top speed?

The normal stock version of the RS6 Avant by Audi makes 600PS of power and 800Nm of peak torque. However, the tuned RS6 Avant produced a massive power output of 800PS, courtesy of Hennessey’s Dynamic Plus Package. This helped the special RS6 to achieve an extra speed of 25 kilometres per hour. To make the speed record run a little funny, Hennessey strapped a Christmas tree on the Avant’s roof.

Official statement from Hennessey Performance

The CEO and Founder of Hennessey Performance, John Hennessey, said, “We wanted to see what my wife’s Audi station wagon would run without the tree and we managed 205 mph. Then, the real holiday fun began when we mounted a real Christmas tree on the roof. To our surprise, her wagon ran a very respectable 183 mph.”

Spec-sheet of the ordinary Audi RS6 Avant

The standard or factory-made version of the RS6 Avant is equipped with a 4.0-litre, V8, twin-turbocharged engine that makes a peak power of 591hp/600PS and 800Nm of torque. The car also features a 48-volt hybrid system that is found in several Audi cars. Sadly, the RS6 Avant is not accessible in India.
