Yamaha R15 2022: A New DNA

The Yamaha R15 is coming on September 21 but before it comes alive, here is what we know so far about the brand new fully-faired motorcycle from Yamaha

Japanese manufacturer Yamaha has sent a media invite to almost all the media outlets covering automobile news to cover the launch of their upcoming R15 and R15M. Although not much is known about the motorcyclesat the moment, a few leaked pictures on the web have allowed us to form an initial opinion about the two.

First and foremost, one model is to be launched in the old-school silver shade with a bit of black graphics on the fairing kit along with blue rims. Moving on to the name of the model, we clearly do not know what are the differences going to be between the R15 and R15M.

In terms of design, the upcoming R15 and R15M have drawn inspiration from the Yamaha R7. Therefore, the models have left the twin-LED headlight units and have settled with a single LED unit in the centre with DRLs on the flanks. Another change that is clearly visible from the pictures is the updated set of front suspension units.

Finally, the R15 and R15M will be launched in India with upside-down forks which have been wanted by automobile enthusiasts for a long time. In terms of mechanical changes, the motorcycle is likely to be powered by the same 55cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve, single-cylinder engine. However, as per a few leaked documents, the upcoming models are likely to make less power figure compared to the previous generation model. Moving on to the torque figure, it is not known if the torque will be tweaked or not.

In the hardware segment, the two R15 models are prone to receive Bluetooth connectivity features. The rest of the features such as dual-channel ABS, side stand engine cut-off switch, variable valve actuation and assist & slipper clutch are likely to be carried over to the upcoming models.

The R15 and R15M are scheduled for a launch on September 21, but apart from the two models, Yamaha could launch another model. Given that the Aerox 155 has been in the news for quite some time, we expect Yamaha to make a surprise launch of the Aerox 155 on the same date.

Last but not least, for the unversed souls, the Aerox 155 is a sporty scooter that is heavily based on the R15.
