Dead by Daylight: Tips for playing as a killer

It’s all about asserting pressure

When it comes to playing as Killer in the asymmetrical game Dead By Daylight, it’s all about asserting equal pressure. The game has a simple premise; a cat-and-mouse chase where both sides –Killer and 4Survivors - have objectives to complete in the trial.

With a whole roster of Killers to choose from, the basic fundamentals of playing as Killer changes from the kind of perks you use. Like Lethal Pursuer will give the aura of all survivors at the start of the trial so you know exactly where to go to. But it is advised to go perkless when you are new at playing Killer.

Here are some tips for playing as a Killer

Check out generators at the edge of the map

Instead of going through the middle in the beginning, approach the generators closer to the edge of the map. Edge of the map generators are usually what Survivors go to at the start. You can catch someone off-guard.

Force Survivors to drop pallets

As a Killer, try to make Survivors drop as many pallets as you can. Pallets are resources that you need to get rid of. Remember God Pallets are present in every map and it’s better to break those rather than blood-lusting to get a down. Unsafe pallets are easy to get a down at so you can easily catch up wthout breaking it.

Hide your red stain

Walking backwards as a Killer hides their red stain. As most Survivors follows the red stain while looping, hiding your red stain will make it easy to mindgame. One popular way is to loop one way, hide your red stain (making survivors think you went the other way) and go the same way.

Know when to drop chase

If you see a Survivor looping quite well and others are completing generators, it is best to drop chase to apply pressure to the gens.

Look out for a 3-gen

A 3 gen is a situation where Survivors complete all the nearby gens on one side while gens on other sides are untouched. It makes it easier for Killer to patrol gens all on the same side so if you can force a 3 gen, things will go smoothly for you.

Try to figure out Survivors’ perks

Perks like Lithe, Sprint Burst, Dead Hard, Borrowed Time are easily noticeable and ry to work around those.

Play as a Survivor

It’s only when you play as a Survivor will you know how Survivors mind works and how you can out-game them as a Killer
