Lockie Ferguson's heist

Lockie Ferguson pipped Umran Malik to the post by bowling the fastest delivery of IPL 2022 in the final.

At Umran Malik's expense

Umran Malik won the award for the fastest delivery of the match in all his 14 appearances during IPL 2022. Even in the match when Sunrisers Hyderabad went head to head against Gujarat Titans and both Malik and Ferguson got the chance to show their pace, Malik came out victorious and maintained his spotless record.

However, with Sunrisers Hyderabad having been knocked out in the group stage itself, the bowler could not do much after Lockie Ferguson bowled the fastest delivery of the IPL in the final itself.

Lockie Ferguson clocked 157.3 km per hour on a full delivery to Jos Butler who missed it and the ball went through to the wicketkeeper WriddhimanSaha.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Umran Malik had clocked 157 kph but the fastest delivery of the season award was swept from under his nose by Lockie Ferguson in the final.

All-time list Overall, Shaun Tait holds the record of bowling the fastest delivery in the IPL after he clocked 157.7 kph. Lockie Ferguson's fastest delivery of IPL 2022 which was timed at 157.3 has also become the second fastest delivery in the history of the IPL.

Umran Malik who bowled the second fastest delivery of IPL 2022 at 157 stands at the third place in the list of the fastest balls in IPL history. Anrich Nortje has also featured twice on the list, bowling deliveries at speeds of 156.2 and 154.8 kph.

Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada are next with both clocking speeds over 154 kph.

Playing his part Lockie Ferguson did make a couple of important contributions for Gujarat Titans not least in the final of IPL 2022. However, he wasn't consistently picked by the side and also had a slide niggle along the way which is run of the mill for bowlers who clock such high speed as it's very difficult to maintain top fitness when the body is taking so much toll.

Hence, it is in the best interest of not only the viewers but the teams itself to not burden the player too much and only use him when required, that is in the big matches and big tournaments.

Fergusons's express pace in IPL 2022 will be remembered for a long time.
