Most holiday goers tend to hit their destination's common tourist spots. However, some lesser-known sites can be just as exciting to explore. There are many stunning places in Odisha that not many travellers know about. These locations may not be on your bucket list but will make your holiday even more memorable. Here are some spots to visit in Odisha that you may not know about.

Mahendragiri

While not very well known, Mahendragiri is a place of cultural and religious significance in Odisha. It is a peaceful hill station located in the district of Ganjam. Shiva, Parshuram, Kunti, Bhima, and Yudhishthir temples are a must-visit if you are looking to get in touch with your spiritual side. Make sure to also head to Chandragiri, which has many Buddhist monasteries. The PadmasambhavaMahavihara Monastery, which is the largest in South Asia is situated here.  However, there are other reasons to explore beautiful Mahendragiri. From lush green valleys to the Khasada waterfall, you can enjoy being surrounded by nature. You should also check out the Taptapani, a hot water spring located about 35 kilometres away from Jeerang.

Chausath Yogini Temple, Hirapur

The Chausath Yogini Temple of Hirapur in Odisha celebrate women and women empowerment. This is something not many people are aware of. It is also known as the Mahamaya Temple and is located just 20 kilometres outside of Bhubaneswar. The sacred site reportedly dates back to the 9th century. The temple's architecture is stunning and was built with sandstone blocks. A visit here could be a truly enriching experience.

Keonjhar

Picture this: Clear waterfalls as you travel the road of Keonjhar. Now, that's a great way to enjoy a road trip. It is the best way to explore Keonjhar. Take a drive through the winding ghat roads that head to KanjipaniGhati. There is plenty to see on this route.

Bhitarkanika National Park, Kendrapara

Bhitarkanika National Park is home to some amazing wildlife, including endangered saltwater crocodiles, wild boars, rhesus monkeys, cobras, monitor lizards, black ibises, and Indian pythons. Pack your camera to capture it all and explore the many brooks, beaches and canals in this special location. The ideal time to visit is anytime between January and March. This is when you get to see nature in all its glory. It is also the time when olive ridley turtles lay their eggs at the Gahirmatha Beach.
