The former capital of Thai kingdom, Ayutthaya is a Unesco World Heritage city that offers you a glimpse of the ancient era.

When in Thailand, take a break from the modern city ambience and visit Ayutthaya to experience its historical significance, rich culture and spirituality. With ancient temples, statues, monasteries, museums and more, the city has so much to offer that you can't cover it completely on a tight schedule. Wat Phra Si Sanphet: Wat Phra Si Sanphet is an architectural wonder which also happens to be the most ancient temple in Ayutthaya. Built on the ground of the former royal palace, the temple comprises of three chedis which hold the heritage of this structure as the other parts (especially, a 16-meter-tall Buddha statue weighing 5,500,000 kgs and covered with 340 kgs of gold) were destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. The Ceylonese style of design makes this temple visually absolutely breathtaking.

Wat Ratchaburana: Also known as the "Temple of Royal Restoration", Wat Ratchaburana is an important monastery to visit in Ayutthaya. It was built by King Borommarachathirat II in 1424 on the cremation site of his two elder brothers Ay and Yi. The structure's major highlight is its main prang (a spire) which reflects the style of both Hindu and Buddhist architecture. Also, there are four Srik Lankan Stupas which you can access by steep stairs.

Ayutthaya Historical Park: Surrounded by Chao Phraya River, Lopburi River and Pa Sak River, this is an absolute delight of a place for the history buffs. Declared as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1991, this 715-acre park is home to many temples and palaces of the ancient era. And there's a 19-meter-tall Buddha statue which will leave you awestruck with its stunning beauty and unique design.

Wat Mahathat: Also referred to as the "Temple of the Great Relics", Wat Mahathat once served as the residence of the Supreme Patriarch (the leader of the Thai Buddhist monks). The place is extremely significant as Buddha's relics were enshrined here. The central prang is truly fascinating, reflecting the Khmer architecture style. Here, you can spot an interesting tree growing around a Buddha head.

Elephant Stay: Elephant Stay, located in the Royal Elephant Kraal Village, is a non-profit organization which conserves and takes care of old elephants. Here, you can spend some time closely with the elephants and form a bond with them. It also offers you an opportunity to witness the animals' lifestyle in their natural habitat and feed, bathe and ride them. Their friendly behaviour will provide you memories for lifetime.
