7 traits you can relate in a long-term friendship

Birds of same feather, flock together. And they flock together for the long haul.

Anyone in a long-term friendship can tell you: there’s no secret dumb enough to share with your bestie. In fact there are no secrets at all. Well, maybe some but they are not consequential.

When you have been friends for a long, long time, it looks and feels different. Sure, you make friends through your life. You have school friends, college friends, work friends, neighbours who you are friends with. You might not even meet with your long-term BFF for months but you pick off right where you left. Like I said, with long term friendships, things are just different.

Here are the traits only long-term friends can relate to.

If too much knowledge was a term…

Let’s face it: you know everything about each other. From shaving accidents to misfortune dates, from embarrassing public faux pas to what makes them tick. You have too much knowledge about everything in their life and frankly, you love it.

You know (like really know) about their family

Even about the treacherous money-laundering cousins or separations under what context – you know the dirty laundry of the family has been aired to each other. On the bright side, their parents really love you.

You judge each other but you love each other

Before you say “Friends don’t judge”, hear us out. In long term friendships, there will be moments your bestie will go “Eww David” for a person you cried over or a dress you really liked. But you know they will love you through all your choices: good, bad and even the ugly ones.

Seen each other ugly cry

Speaking of ugly: your bestie has seen your ugly cry and let your tears and drool wet their shoulders. Later, you laughed about your ruined expensive mascara together.

You are a big part of their ‘phases’

Remember the time your BFF thought they could go through getting their ears pierced without crying? You were there for that. Your bestie was also there when you were going through your obsession phase of learning how to skate.

Think and say the same thing at the same time

One glance and you know exactly what phrase your bestie is thinking. You have been friends for so long you can actually hear them use their catchphrase in your head.

You don’t meet for a long time but know everything that happened

Also, you don’t have many Instagram worthy picture together. All photos you have of each other are in their rawest form, mostly makeup less, doing the most random things. And those are the best.
