All You Need to Know About AMG's Production-Ready Hypercar

In 2017, the German manufacturer showcased the concept version of Project One at the Frankfurt motor show. Now, in 2022, the monstrous car is set to hit the streets

In 2017, German car manufacturer Mercedes-AMG showcased the concept version of Project One at the International Motor Show, Frankfurt. Five years later, in 2022, the company has finally unveiled the production-ready form of the Project One car that is scheduled to reach its owners by the second half of this year.

What is the importance of this article?

The Project One car has been in the news since 2017 because the car has not only been developed by Mercedes-AMG but also by its F1 racing division; the team that is responsible for winning eight consecutive F1 constructors’ championships. Project One is unique because it is a road-legal sports car with the engine of an F1 car.

Power of F1 in the hands of ordinary citizens

The Project One car draws power from a 1.6-litre, V6 turbocharged engine that the Merc-AMG F1 team uses for racing. The V6 unit makes a peak power of 573hp at 9,000rpm, coupled with four more electric motors. In short, the car is armed with five powertrains.

The first electric motor, with 122hp of power, is placed between the electric compressor and turbocharger on a shaft. Mercedes-AMG has fixed the second motor with 163hp of power on the primary engine, whereas the remaining two electric units with 163hp of power (each) drive the front wheels.

Overall, the car makes a peak power output of 1,066hp at 11,000rpm, which is simply monstrous. As per the company, the car can hit a 0 to 100 kilometres per hour mark in 2.9 seconds whereas the 200 kilometres per hour mark from a standstill in seven seconds. Not to forget, the car has a top speed of 350 kilometres per hour.

Other highlights

Project One is made of composite plastic and carbon fibre that helps the car generate maximum downforce and also keeps the weight of the car in check. Moving on to the car’s aerodynamics, Project One features various aerodynamic modes, including a drag reduction system similar to F1 cars. Not to forget, the beast is equipped with driving modes such as Race Safe, Race, EV, Individual, Race Plus and Strat 2.

Price-tag and availability

Given that Project One is a special car, it is limited to 275 units only and, as per reports, all the units have already been sold. Last but not the least, the price of a Project One car is 2.2-million-pound sterling.
