Chocolate May Help Older Women Burn Fat, But There Is A Catch

Anecdotal evidence suggests that a tiny quantity of chocolate consumed in the hours immediately following awakening or just preceding bedtime may have large and favourable effects on the sleep of older women.

Nineteen elderly women who consumed roughly 3.5 ounces of milk chocolate per day at different times of the day for two weeks were studied to discover whether their daily habit of chocolate consumption contributed to weight gain. Most of these women picked milk chocolate because it is richer in fat, sugar, and calories. This is a recipe for weight gain! In addition, chocolate has been linked to weight growth in prior studies, particularly in older women who are more prone to weight gain than younger women are.

These women not only did not gain weight while regularly eating chocolate, but they also demonstrated clear advantages from the practise. Cravings for sugary foods were reduced, and it even increased the amount of fat burned and the amount of physical activity the women did during the day.

Melatonin, the sleep-inducing neurotransmitter, was raised when people ate chocolate before going to sleep. In addition to improving sleep quality, one’s circadian system was also observed to benefit from this.

Blood Pressure and Chocolate

Contrary to expectations, the modest amount of chocolate used in this study had the opposite impact on participants' blood pressure. Those who consumed chocolate before bedtime reported reduced sleepiness and a more restful night's rest.
