Reality shows are nowadays rampant all over the world. Enormous amount of youths and adults are trying to live the dream of being a celebrity in a short time. Even the parents are hoping their little children will make the breakthrough in one of the reality shows made for children. But is it really intelligent to invest so much time and give so much importance to these reality shows? Do these reality shows actually promote mediocrity in the long run? We will discuss 5 reasons that are holding back the reality shows to become actually relevant.

Misguided Reality

The most talked about and obvious allegation that the 'reality' shows face is also the primary reason that destroys its reliability. Critics often point out that the reality shows are actually not realistic, and it brings shame to its own name. There are several allegations that reality shows are staged, pre-scripted where the participants act to give it a sense of reality and keep the entertainment going on. They also reportedly create controversial scenarios that generate over-the-top behaviour with punchy dialogues from the participants.

Celebrities Who Don't Deserve It

The reality shows often produce individuals who become hugely popular among the masses, even for a short time. Most of the celebrities come from shows like Big Boss, or Singing and dancing competitions. However, most of the celebrities' fame fizzles out after a low amount of time period. The reason behind this phenomenon is most of them really don't have any real skills or talents to maintain the longevity among the audience.

Promotes Pleasure From Humiliation

The reality shows often build a storyline where a particular participant or selected participants go through insane humiliation from others. The audience who flocks to these shows often gets the pleasure from the humiliation of the individuals. These shows have often been accused of violating human self-dignity and human rights.

The Election of The Winner

The judgement process of most of the reality shows has come under scrutiny for using public voting as a means to select the winners. The effect is more adverse in the dancing, acting or music reality shows where often the most skilled participants don't get to win the deserving prize as they may not be more presentable to a selected set of audience who pull the strings through voting. The increase of undeserving winners is a huge problem that most reality shows face.

Adverse Effect on Children

Reality shows are often accused of exposing the children to a fake world of glamour where the talent become secondary. There are also several instances where little kids go through extreme pressure at such a young age which they might not be able to handle in the long run. The film named 'Little Miss Sunshine' explores the naivety of reality shows where super-privileged parents train their kids to win the shows, where the basic element of enjoyment evaporates.
