Healthy Foods That Survive The Longest In the Fridge

Food safety is often questioned while browsing through the refrigerator shelves.

We have all been there when we have finished half a portion of packaged food and realized that yesterday’s expiration date was staring at our face. Time and again we have questioned whether the food in our fridge has gone bad or are safe to eat. What food to toss away from the fridge and what to keep has been a concern for most people. There are, however, some healthy foods that can be kept in the fridge for the longest without the fear of them going bad overnight. Here are a few healthy foods that can stay fresh in the fridge for a long time.

Blueberries Stay Fresh In The Fridge For Almost A Week

Berries like strawberries, raspberries and blueberries have a high content of vitamins, antioxidants, mineral and dietary fiber. Studies have time and again showed the multiple benefits that berries can have on human health. However, strawberries and raspberries stay fresh in the fridge for a very short period of time spanning in between three to five days. On the contrary, blueberries can stay fresh in your fridge for at least a week. So, if you believe that you have gotten more berries than you can possibly eat in a day, store them away in your fridge without a concern in the world for at least a week.

Leafy Greens Stay Fresh Fir Long With Proper Care

The health benefits of having leafy greens in your diet are no news. They are a powerhouse of nutrition loaded with calcium, potassium, vitamins, minerals, copper, fiber, and manganese as well. Leafy greens can be kept fresh in your fridge for about five days and may be one or two days more if taken proper care. They should taken out of their packaging and kept in a container whose bottom is layered with a paper towel. The greens should then be covered with another layer of paper towel in order to keep the moisture away keeping them crisp for a longer period.

Cheese Keeps Its Goodness For A Month

Hard cheese can stay fresh with all its cheesy goodness in the fridge for around a month if the box is not opened. However, cheeses like cottage cheese and cream cheese stay good for around one or two weeks, which is still quite long compared to other dairy products.
