How long does your tire last?
Car tyres are designed to last for many years but there are lots of variables that decide the longevity of the tyre. It is important that one should know when the tyres have transformed into worn tyres and change them accordingly.
Health of the tyres depends a lot on a person’s driving behaviour. People who love their car and its components know how to drive properly. Rash driving increases the chances of a tyre getting damaged. If you drive too fast on an off-road surface or shift greats too abruptly, it not only results in decrease in handling but also damages the grooves.
AGE
It is not at all advisable to use the tyres after they age. Typically, passenger tyres are designed to run for 5-6 years and it is recommended to not use them after that. People often get confused about the age factor and they can use their tyres for many more years because they do not drive a lot.
This argument is completely wrong as the quality of all the tyres depreciate with time because of too many factors like receiving excessive heat, minerals present in dirt and dust particles which damage the rubber compound of the tyre and UV rays of the sun that causes damage in the sidewall of the tyre. It is proved by experts that quality of tyres decreases with time even if they remain in stationery position and therefore one should understand this. To know the age of the year, one can look at the manual or at the sidewall of the tyre.
USAGE
In earlier days, the tyres that were built used to give around 32000 kms to the owner but with change in technology, modern tyres can last up to 40,000 kms. Despite this big change, people want to extract more and more kilometers from their tyres and they end up killing the performance of their car. One should replace the tyres after using them for the appropriate amount of time to avoid accidents and other hazards in future.
AIR PRESSURE
One cannot emphasise enough the importance of maintaining the accurate amount of air pressure. It is recommended to check the air pressure at least once a month. When you drive the car, the air pressure gets low and therefore should be checked regularly. However, it is also important to not overinflate the tyres as it may cause many handling problems. To make sure that your tyres last long, maintain the air pressure.
