Motorcycle 101: Methods to Communicate Effectively With Other Riders

If you are new to the world of highway motorcycle trips, read this article to learn the effective methods of communicating with your fellow riders

In India, the latest hobby that is trending at the moment is motorcycle trips. Nowadays, almost everyone is trying to hit the highways which is something we appreciate but at the same time, it is a dangerous thing because riding on the highways is a risky activity.

Over the years, we have shared several tips related to highway riding and in this article; we have drafted another important tip, i.e., the effective methods of communicating with your fellow riders on the go. After all, when you are riding with fellow riders on the highways, communication is the key.

Use Bluetooth intercom headset

A Bluetooth intercom headset is like a Bluetooth earphone that one can attach to the helmet and then connect the intercom to his or her smartphone. However, it is a much more sophisticated device compared to a Bluetooth earphone because it fits well inside the helmet.

Not to forget, unlike Bluetooth earphones, Bluetooth intercoms do not require a rider to call his or her fellow rider. Instead, it works like a walkie-talkie and therefore; the riders are always connected and they can talk or hear each other’s decisions continuously.

Cannot afford an intercom? No worries, download a radio app

Good intercoms are highly costly, and therefore, everyone cannot purchase one. The alternative to an intercom device is a radio intercom app. There are tons available on the internet and one can easily download the app on his or her phone.

All the riders need to download the same app and then create a chatroom. Once the chatroom is active, all the riders can hear each other. However, note that radio apps work only when the smartphone has active internet connectivity. In places without reception, the apps will not work.

Use mirror and dipper lights

In the present era, most rookie riders do not know how to use the mirrors and dipper lights of their motorcycles. Often, we have seen rookie riders getting rid of their mirrors or riding their motorcycles with the high beam on. However, both are instrumental in establishing communication if they used in the correct manner.

If you are leading the pack, keep an eye on the mirror to check the riders behind you. If you are at the back, use your dipper lights to signal the lead; basically, like a heliograph/semaphore system. Once the signal is sent and received, halt the motorcycles and discuss the issue at hand.
