Types of Chocolates.

A box of chocolates is a perfect gift for every occasion- be it Birthday, Diwali or Valentines’ Day.

Chocolate is a guilty pleasure for worldwide people. It is confirmed by the chocolate section at the grocery stores, filled with options varying from types to brands to the percentage of cocoa contents. Isn’t it overwhelming? So, let us not waste our time and take a look at the different types of chocolates.

UNSWEETENED CHOCOLATE- As the name suggests, it's a pure variety of chocolate made from ground cocoa nibs (the inside of cocoa beans) with 100% cocoa contains. It is not for direct consumption but cooking/baking purposes as it tastes better with other ingredients. Unsweetened chocolate is a popular base ingredient in most chocolates and cakes. It is so because, under high pressure, the paste of unsweetened chocolate separates into cocoa solids and cocoa butter.

MILK CHOCOLATE- It is a classic variety, light brown colour, creamy and sweet flavoured chocolate known to us. It contains about 40% cocoa (chocolate liquor) mixed with sugar and milk. A piece of mil chocolate fills the air with the aroma of caramelised sugar, milk, vanilla and chocolate. Milk chocolate is also known as the middle of the road chocolate.

WHITE CHOCOLATE- It is a unique creamy/ivory coloured chocolate. White chocolate is named so because it doesn't contain cocoa solids to give it a dark brown colour. Instead, it has 20% cocoa butter, sugar, milk, vanilla and lecithin (for fine blend). A bite of the white chocolate fills your mouth with a creamy, soft and smooth texture with a hint of vanilla scent.

DARK CHOCOLATE- It is also known as black chocolate due to its noticeable dark brown colour. The ingredients of the dark chocolates are chocolate liquor (30%-80% cocoa), sugar and cocoa butter. It is a bar of semi-sweet chocolate that gives you the flavour of rich cocoa. In recent years, many articles and blogs posts state the health benefits of dark chocolates; therefore, increasing its demand among consumers.

RUBY CHOCOLATE- First manufactured in China in 2017, it is the newest variety of chocolate. The reddish-pink colour of the ruby chocolate differentiates it from its other counterparts. It gets formulated using ruby cocoa beans (containing 47.5% cocoa) and milk. The taste of ruby cocoa beans is similar to berries; therefore, ruby chocolates have a mixed flavour of white cholate and berries.

These are some commonly known types of chocolates found in the market.
