Weirdest Ice Cream Flavours
Chocolate, butterscotch, pistachio, strawberry are standard ice cream flavours. But there are some fanciful flavours that are downright weird.
Choosing from the ice-cream menu, are you often torn between chocolate, butterscotch, pistachio, strawberry and other options? And those are just standard flavours. What if you come to confront a wild variety of choices ranging from the intriguing to the astounding? Though one cannot predict the exact experience, it sure won't be 'vanilla'. Here are some existing weird flavours that can leave you scratching your head.
Pickled Mango
One of the unique flavours conjured up by Jeni Britton Bauer, pioneer of artisanal ice creams and the proprietor of Ohio-based Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, mimics the fancifully piquant flavour of pickled mangoes!
It is a cream cheese-based ice cream with a slightly spicy mango sauce made of white balsamic vinegar, white pepper, allspice, and clove. Incidentally, they also have a Goat Cheese with Red Cherries flavour on their menu.
Corn On The Cob
More than anything else, corn on the cob is bound to make you nostalgic about a rain-swept evening. One can bite into this nostalgia at Max & Mina’s Ice Cream store in Flushing, NY along with Horseradish, Garlic, Pizza, Lox, and Jalapeño flavours. Since 1998, the brother-owner duo has invented about 5000 interesting flavours adapted from their grandfather's original recipes.
Pear And Blue Cheese
Salt & Straw, located in Portland, Oregon seems to have made a life-long vow of mixing sugar with spice in ice creams. Renowned for bringing together Balsamic Strawberry and Cracked Pepper, they have now infused their ice creams with sweet Oregon Trail Bartlett Pears mixed with crumbles of Rogue Creamery's award-winning Crater Lake Blue Cheese.
Ghost Pepper
Plain vanilla: No; African Vanilla or Madagascar Vanilla Bean: Yes. The Ice Cream Store in Rehoboth Beach deals only with the exotic in their ice cream varieties. They deal with the wild as well.
Earlier they had developed Devil's Breath – a combination of bright red vanilla ice cream, cinnamon and a Carolina Reaper pepper. Then they upped the hot quotient with Ghost Pepper which features in the 2016 Ripley's Believe It or Not book. You'll have to sign a waiver before you savour either!
Creole Tomato
New Orleans’ Creole Creamery has a simple philosophy: 'Eat ice cream. Be happy.' They clearly think a Creole Tomato salad flavoured ice cream will make people happy.
Cheetos
Can't have enough of the spicy, cheesy treat? Have more of it at the roving Big Gay Ice Cream truck, or in one of their four stores in NY and one in Philadelphia. This soft serve consists of vanilla and cheese ice cream generously sprinkled with Cheetos dust.
