Why ‘Play It Cool, Guys’ Isn’t Your Typical BL Series – and Why That’s Totally Okay!

Play it cool, guys is a wholesome show that involves four main characters, Hayate, Shun, Takayuki, and Souma. They are just like lost puppies finding a way and searching for the true meaning of life.

Our four main characters happen to meet each other by coincidence and they soon become friends but for the romance part, the show does not disclose much about it. As there is not a single moment between our characters where you can see budding romances between them, which is not really a bad part of it.

The anime Is all about people who are a little clumsy but still trying to fit in with everyone and you definitely don’t wannamiss their cute moments. It’s absolutely adorable.

So, if you haven’t watched the show, now is the time to check it out.

The Charm of ‘Play It Cool, Guys’: Embracing its Lack of Romance:

The show Play it cool guys is not about boys falling in love but it is more than that. It’s about life and its struggle. From far, it seems like our main characters in the show have pretty good and carefree lives but in reality, they are all trying and struggling to discover themselves. Because life is not all about chasing love or relationships but about chasing your means for happiness.

Like for example in the show, Shun, in high school, may not seem to have any trouble, but to the contrary, he faces challenges like exams and heartbreak. Souma and Hayate just started their college journey and are trying their best to find their dream career. Even Takayuki, who is in a good post at his job, struggles to find people to have fun with.

And they all resonate with audiences deeply. So, rather than turning them into a couple, a pure friendship is what is needed the most at this point in time.

Other than that, Play It Cool, Guys also portrays a different perspective on life by showcasing that being single and finding happiness for oneself is perfectly okay and it is way more important than your typical romance.

Should ‘Play It Cool, Guys’ Turn into a BL Series?

Well, even though the show literally doesn’t show any of the romance, there are some moments that are really intimidating and will astonish you and make you feel like there is some kind of love relation between characters.

Like for example, If Motoharu and Takayuki suddenly confess their feelings and became boyfriends, it won’t feel that great why? Because they have such a lovely and sweet friendship that is really admirable.

Another take is, if you have watched the show you must have noticed that Shun often blushes around Souma, and Motoharu is so much focused on winning Takayuki’s attention. But, the catch is that none of them talk about dating girls, except in one of the episodes where it is shown that Shun turns down a girl who asks him out.

Despite that, there is not a single couple in the show to expect romance in the show. The characters totally rely on each other and have a lot to learn as they truly admire each other.

Shun has a personality growth because of Hayate, while on the other hand, Hayate looks up to Takayuki until Motoharu appears and becomes his brand new crush.

Takayuki really feels comfortable with Hayate, but his bond with Motoharu is something beyond expression. Despite Motoharu and Takayuki, who seem like a good match, there aren’t any other love stories developing.
