Indoor plants for room with low light

Not everyone lives in a brightly lit room with ample airflow and sunlight. There are always certain spaces in the house that are dimly lit and are generally away from any direct or indirect light. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that those areas can’t play host to many indoor plants which actually flourish in low light conditions.

Bright Indirect Light

Even if there isn’t any direct sunlight, your living space can have bright indirect light. These are generally the rooms with a window towards the exterior of the house. For such well-lit rooms, you can opt for plants that prefers such areas like a Spider plant, Dieffenbachia (dumb cane), Monstera and Air plant. Kimberly Queen fern – which is an indoor air purifier, also prefers places with bright indirect sunlight. The brightest corners of your house should be reserved for these plants so that they can flourish.

Low to Bright Indirect Light

Towards the inner part of a well-lit room, where there is low to bright indirect light, indoor plants like ZZ plant and Golden Pothos are an ideal choice. Other indoor plants that grow well in such lighting conditions are Philodendron and Prayer plant. Peace Lily – which is a pretty low maintenance plant, too grows well in low to bright indirect light.

Low to Medium Indirect Light

In the inner rooms of your house or apartment where there is no direct sunlight, you will have to choose your indoor plants carefully. Chinese Evergreen and Lucky Bamboo are two good choices for interior rooms with little or no access to direct sunlight. Snake plants – which is known for its high oxygen producing properties too is a good choice of plant in your inner rooms. You can also place a large potted Parlor Palm or a bunch of English Ivy in a room with low lights and still have a healthy plant.

Low Light

Now we move into the dingiest part of your house where there is little or no natural light. It can be a sparingly used guest bedroom or a workstation. In places like that, Lady Palm or Sago Palm plants are good choice because these plants don’t need a whole lot of light to survive and grow. In case you are not a Palm fan, you can put a Cast Iron Plant in dimly lit areas of your house. Nerve Plants and Calathea too grows in low light area so you can put them in a smaller pot by the bed or table to light up the environment in a rarely used room.
