You usually rush into setting your dinner table because you are too involved and busy with cooking. With today’s busy schedules, most of you usually have your food at the comfort of your couch while watching TV which has mostly made it forgetful for many to lay a table in the house before your lunch or dinner. Unless you have a dinner party, that too is done in a rush. A truly spectacular breakfast, lunch or dinner party is one that has a beautiful table setting suiting the occasion. Here is a handy guide for you to discover how to lay your dining table right.

YOUR EVERYDAY TABLE

This one for all your weekday meals or casual breakfast with your family. Your everyday table laying does not require too much of your time. You can stick to the basic Single Plate, fork, knife and a napkin . Take care of the following:

Lay table mats as per the number of people.

Place the plate in the middle

Fork on the left and knife on the right along with a spoon on its right.

Place the glass right above where the knife is placed on the right side.

A napkin above the plate or under the fork.

CASUAL LUNCHEON

This one is for all you casual lunch and dinner parties. This table setting would require more cutlery and dinnerware than a casual table laying as there will be more dishes to be served. Apart from the basics, you will additionally need, soup bowls, salad plates, wine glasses etc.

Follow the instructions

The salad plate should be placed on top of the dinner plate. the fork on its right.

Soupspoon on the right of the dinner spoon

The other beverage glass to be placed on the right slightly above the water glass.

The other dish bowls should be spread horizontally on the table in the middle.

Salt and pepper should be again placed in the centre of the table.

FORMAL DINING TABLE

For all your holiday feasts, to a multi-course dinner. A formal table requires a lot more than your casual table. A table cloth which is a game-changer, coffee cups, bread plate, rice plate etc.

Follow the instructions:

First thing first. Lay a pretty table cloth on your table instead of just the mats.

Place the charger plate in the middle and the dinner plate on top of it.

Place the bread plate towards the left of the dinner plate with the dinner knife placed horizontally on the bread plate.

Forks on the left and knife on the right of the dinner plate.

Water glasses, juice glasses on the top right corner of the dinner plate.

Napkins on top of the salad plate. Folded or in a napkin ring.
