Useful pointers for aspiring streamers

First rule: don’t be disheartened.

Streaming is not a cakewalk, truth be told... Deciding to stream your games or content has its ups and downs and consistent audience might not be guaranteed at first. All well-known streamers have built up their viewership for years. For an aspiring streamer, the journey from thinking about streaming to I am streaming right now can be a nail-biting experience.

Here are some useful pointers for aspiring streamers.

  1. Start it as a hobby – If you play on a regular basis and been thinking about streaming as something you are passionate about, try it out as a hobby first. With time, you will have an idea if you want it to become something more than a hobby.
  2. Ups and downs are normal – It’s hard to stream your content when there are less or no viewers. Streaming is a slow business. People need to know why they should watch your stream and that might take time.
  3. Consistency, but also unique – Your content could be anything, but your online persona has to be unique enough for people to watch your stream. If WOW is something you are good at, keep at it. Be consistent with your stream times, even when viewership dips.
  4. Talk. Talk – Talk about things that you are passionate about. The people watching your stream don’t want to watch a silent streamer. It helps to prepare before stream if you are unsure about what to say.
  5. Get inspiration – It’s alright to draw inspiration from other streamers, as long as you don’t plagiarise their whole content. Develop on the inspiration and come up with ideas to keep your crowd engaged.
  6. Interactive chat– An aspiring streamer, especially in the early stages, will have to engage with their viewers via chat. The more questions you answer, or the more you open up to them, the more they would want to know.
  7. Presentation matters – Unique content and personality is a powerful blend. Decide on how you want to be perceived by the world. A blend of both will gain you quite a viewership.
  8. Be prepared for anything – You need to be prepared about the responses you get. Internet is, as you know it, fraught with people who can be mean sometimes. Be prepared to receive negativity and respond likewise. For an aspiring streamer, know what things to let go and what needs to be focused on.
